The European Tour Operators Association (ETOA) released a statement warning that dreams of Olympic tourism could turn to nightmares. ETOA’s research and analysis shows that the vast numbers of foreign visitors anticipated to arrive at previous Olympics did not materialise. No host city has predicted demand for an Olympics correctly.ETOA points out that if huge numbers of Olympic visitors attend, normal guests are displaced. Availability is restricted and prices rise — a hostile environment for normal tourism. As London is the gateway to the U.K. and its biggest draw, the problem is not restricted to the host city.Source: ETOA press release of Sep. 20, 2010Full report available for download here>>.
