EU-Commission updates Airline Blacklist

On Dec. 4, 2012, the European Commission has adopted the 20th update of the European list of air carriers which are subject to an operating ban or operational restrictions within the European Union, better known as "the EU air safety list". Because of important safety concerns, air carriers certified in Eritrea have been added to the list.

Single European Sky: 10 years on and still not delivering

The Single European Sky, the flagship project to create a single European airspace – tripling capacity and halving air traffic costs – is "not delivering". Vice-President Siim Kallas, European Commissioner for transport, announced his intention to present new legislative proposals in Spring 2013 to accelerate implementation, as well as taking all enforcement actions possible, including infringements where necessary.

On July 31, 2012 the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) published its opinion on the "Communication from the Commission to the European Parliament and the Council — A European vision for passengers: communication on passenger rights in all transport modes".

EU Commission to hold another stakeholders' conference on the PTD revision

The European Commission will hold a half-day stakeholders' conference on the revision of the Package Travel Directive (90/314/EEC) on 05 June 2012. The conference will take place at Charlemagne, room Jenk –– Rue de la Loi 170 – 1049 Brussels. It will primarily aim at hearing and collecting stakeholders' views on certain key issues related to the revision of the Directive.

EU: Public consultation on a review of EU passenger ship safety legislation

The EU Commission has started a public consultation on a review of EU passenger ship safety legislation. The consultation will be open from 13/04/2012 to 5/07/2012. 

The first set of questions relate to the main objective, namely, to identify and address within the current Directive 2009/45/EC on rules and standards for passenger ship safety any provisions that may need to be reviewed or updated and which lead to inefficiencies in the EU internal market for ships or maritime passenger services.

European Union: airline black list updated

On April 3, 2012, the European Commission has adopted the 19th update of the European list of air carriers which are for safety reasons subject to an operating ban or operational restrictions within the European Union. Conviasa, an air carrier certified in Venezuela, was added to the list due to safety concerns.

European Union: Public consultation of stakeholders on the "European Charter for Sustainable and Responsible Tourism"

In the framework of the implementation of Action 15 of the 2010 Commission Communication on tourism COM(2010)352: "The European Charter for Sustainable and Responsible Tourism", Tourism Policy Development Unit has launched a stakeholders consultation which is open till 20 April 2012. 

The consultation concerns the first draft text of the Charter as well as several possible open questions, assembled in the Questionnaire.
